Chigago born Laura Lee is critically acclaimed for her recordings which discussed and celebrated women’s experience. She launched her solo career as a R&B singer in clubs in Detroit and alongside replaced the great Della Rees in The Meditation Singers in 1956.
Before boosting her career with Motown producers, Holland, Dozier Lee had her first hit with „Women’s Love Rights“on Chess Records.Lee’s profound sound of concious soul and gospel was most successful in the 1960s and 1970s with tracks as „Crumbs Off The Table“ and „Rip Off“.
