This edition of #TheSoulMixtape features a tribute to some of my favorite DJ’s, namely the tastemaker that is UK DJ Giles Peterson, the US own DJ’s DJ: DJ Jazzy Jeff and the late great NY’s own David Mancuso of the Loft/Garage etc.
This volume of #TheSoulMixtape starts with Moonchild talking about what Neo Soul means to them and then taking a trip through some great examples of the genre before taking diversions into Reggae, Acid Jazz and straight up Soul territory! Greats like The Isley Brothers mix with (what were) upstarts like Bilal and Van Hunt, all the way to those Acid Jazz Funkers from the UK Driza Bone and the Brand New Heavies.

Tape 40 of #TheSoulMixtape kicks off with the O.G Dougie Fresh on Hip Hop (Together with some old school hip hop tracks), features some great Neo Soul from Dwele and my own mix of “Better and Better” from Eric Benet and Lalah Hathaway, some great Reggae from Paradise and Derrick Harriott, topped off with soul and rare groove from the likes of Carrie Lucas and the Pointer Sisters….and much more!
TAPE 39 of #TheSoulMixtape features interviews and a selection of tracks from the great Al Green, Some Broken from Phuturistix, Jazz Funk from Three Pieces, Matt Bianco and James Polk, Hip Hop from 9th Wonder, Jay Z and Kanye, plus the soulful sounds of Carl Hall, Donny Hathaway (With an excellent Stevie Wonder composition) and Diana Ross.
TAPE 38 of #TheSoulMixtape features the late great Michael Jackson, 90’s RnB from Joe, 00’s RnB from Kevon Edmonds, 80’s choons from the likes of Bryan Loren, Wyndjammer and the Hudsons. Some Jazz Funk from the likes of Ronnie Laws and Asha Puthli, classics from Patrice Rushen and Kleeer……. the list goes on.
#THESOULMIXTAPE NO.37 features some 80’s soul classics from Glenn Jones and Funk Deluxe, Hip Hop from Mobb Deep as a tribute to Prodigy who passed when this aired on nuwaveradio.net plus some great Reggae, Soulful house (In the form of a great cover of classic 90’s ballad KISSING YOU by Keith Washington) as well as some Rare Groove nuggets.
#THESOULMIXTAPE NO.36 features a section on Disco with Nile Rogers talking of its influence, more classic HipHop and the samples that birthed the tracks, some boogie and steppers as well as some excellent soulful house music featuring a Glenn Lewis Remix and Sterling Ensemble..
