Das Kölner Produzenten-Duo Kabanjak und Dogu aka ANCIENT ASTRONAUTS stellt auf seinem neuen Album ZIK ZAK verschiedene Sänger, Rapper und Musiker aus Uganda, Nigeria, Mozambique, Togo, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Tanzania, Kenya und Senegal vor und verwebt Live-Instrumentierung mit ihrem unverwechselbaren „Boom Dub” Sound, basierend auf HipHop, Dancehall, Roots Reggae, Bassmusic, Soul, Electronica und Breakbeat.

“With ZIK ZAK, we want to give a platform to young talents from Africa that are too good to ignore – they must be heard internationally. Africa is our motherland too, in the end. Civilization comes from Africa and that ́s where rhythm comes from. After too many years of slavery and exploitation of the African countries, it is time to shine light on the great talent of Mother Africa.”

Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt auf ZIK ZAK liegt bei der intensiven und lebendigen Szene in Uganda, in der sich lokale, mutierte Formen von Afrobeat und Dancehall von den bekannteren, globalisierten Produkten Nigerias und Jamaikas weg entwickelt haben. Ancient Astronauts gründeten eine Basis und eine Partnerschaft mit dem lokalen Studio East African Records, um tief in die Musikszene in Ugandas Hauptstadt Kampala einzutauchen.
